Leah
Verier-Dunn

Artistic Director
Co-Founder

Leah Verier-Dunn is a Sarasota, FL, based artist committed to establishing connection within and among local and global communities through dramatic reflections of real life. She received her BFA in Dance from New World School of the Arts in Miami, FL. Subsequently, she launched a professional career in Miami, then New York, and eventually returned to her roots in Sarasota, where she co-founded Moving Ethos in 2007. Having worked with several distinguished companies, Leah found her artistic home with Rosie Herrera Dance Theater in 2011, with whom she continues to collaborate while juggling her two children and the Artistic Direction of Moving Ethos Dance.

Leah’s work has been described as “psychological dance theater with a lasting impact” (Sarasota Herald Tribune, 2015) and she is recognized for creating performances that stir thinking and thrust people into conversation. Her process is intense, lengthy, immersive, and collaborative, providing space for deeper personalization of roles. The end results consistently create a feeling of “I’m not alone here” for audience members. This approach, critics have said, “leads to pieces that are intriguingly complex and multilayered, yet still refreshingly accessible and relatable” (Sarasota Herald Tribune, 2019).

In 2019, Leah was the first Spotlight Florida Resident at The Ringling Museum of Art, Sarasota’s leading cultural institution. This six-month residency focused on the development of her latest work, girlwoman, which, besides two performances, included eight community engagements, such as artist collaborations, masterclasses for Sarasota County educators and students, community workshops, and round table discussions. Since then, Leah has continued as an artist-in-residence at The Ringling. Most recently her residency has been focused on the co-created work, Florida Woman, with Rosie Herrera.
